Conflict Resolution and the Role of the Bystander was a very informative presentation given by Mediator Jason Harper. Jason touched upon the need to educate children who witness bullying on how to respond appropriately, since just standing by and saying nothing is perceived as JHarperagreeing with the bully. However, we know this is not always the case. I’m sure many kids would like to speak out about bullying but they just don’t know how. Good thing Jason was here to impart some knowledge to parents on how to start teaching our children “what it means to be a friend” , “how to be a leader”, and what it means to be a person of character. Jason shared sentence stems and language parents can teach their child(ren) to use to disarm bullying behavior they may witness. We just may see Jason Harper again in our classrooms teaching on the role of the bystander and equipping our students with tools necessary for successful conflict resolution.
